Jogan Beach plus Waterfall
The Only One Beach With Waterfall
Jogan Beach is the only beach in Yogyakarta that has a stream of waterfalls directly into the sea. Waterfalls on the lips of the sea are rare in Indonesia, even the world. Hidden behind the karst hills, Gunungkidul in the south of Yogyakarta turned out to save a waterfall that fell directly to the lips of the sea. Flanked by tall limestone cliffs, Jogan Beach is like a river, where the river water descends the mountain to meet the waves that return to sea. Of the dozens of beaches scattered along the 71 kilometer coast of Gunungkidul, Jogan Beach occupies a privileged position because of the existence of a waterfall that falls directly from the top of the cliff to the mouth of the sea, ts location just west of Siung Beach is often forgotten by climbers.
To be able to enjoy the splash of water from the top of the cliff, we must go downstairs. There are two ways to get off, first with the canyoning technique, aka rappeling at the waterfall.
Of course we need the tools and the ability to do it. Second, climb the wet slippery derivative. Fortunately, handrails are available as support for the body. Even so, caution is mandatory because of the steep path. After slippery steep rocks, there is one more challenge, we still have to pass through the reef inhabited by thousands of transparent colored crab babies measuring about 5 mm. This is not a colony of red crabs inhabiting Christmas Island (which is near West Java but is owned by Australia), but passing by bare feet is certainly not a simple matter. The surrounding residents usually take baby crabs to cook, become friends eating warm rice in the rainy season. If lucky, visitors can also watch hundreds of butterflies clustered on dry rocks.
