
Mudal River Ecotourism
Ecotourism is named the Mudal River Park because the water here comes from the Mudal spring. As well as the appearance around this location is indeed made like a park, where people gather to have fun while enjoying the charm of nature. Mudal River Park is a natural tourist attraction located in Kulon Progo Regency, or about 1 hour from downtown Yogyakarta if driving. This place is in the form of a bathing pool whose water always looks clear and has beautiful turquoise colors. starting from the initiative of the residents where the Mudal River Park is located, namely the clean-up movement in the spring and the banks of the Mudal river flow which began in 2011 by the Banyunganti community, Realizing tourism potential in the form of waterfalls, bathing and swimming pools, flora and fauna, rapids, as well as captivating views of Menoreh mountains. In addition to helping the economy of the people as ecotourism, the Mudal River Park is still a source of irrigation for the surrounding rice fields and consumption of clean water for local residents.
The surrounding waterfalls are Kembang Soka Waterfall and Kedung Pedut Waterfall which are almost the same characteristics. Some of them are Bendung Pule, Kedung Wong, Kedung Luweng, Kedung Dowo, Kedung Rempelas, Kedung Awar-awar, and Kedung Gedoya. Bathing and swimming pools are in the Kedung Gedoya area. There is also a pool that is made friendly for children with a depth of 1 – 1.5 meters and for adults the depth is 1.5 – 2 meters. The first pool is 7 x 11 m² wide for children’s play and swimming. While the second pool measures 7 x 10 m². If you want to take photos while in the pool, you are advised to take pictures in the morning or evening. The result will be better and more interesting because clear water in the Sungai Mudal Park meets the sun beside you not above like during the daytime. For guests who happen to be less friendly with water tourism, can try trekking to Watu Wayang. This place is a limestone cliff and is said to be similar to the puppet screen, the community calls it Watu Wayang. At Watu Wayang, you will find many long-tailed macaques. Or you can also take a walk around the cool and beautiful Mudal River Park filled with shady trees and beautiful flowers.
